01 THE IDEA

Greg and Andy briefly sketch two interlocking ideas around journaling accountability. The first is a social journaling product where every time you publish a journal entry, your designated accountability friends are notified — making a private habit semi-public and creating gentle social pressure to stay consistent. The core insight is that most journaling apps are solo experiences, and the blank-page problem is compounded by zero external accountability.

The second layer adds a financial-stakes mechanic: deposit $50 (or some amount), and if you miss your streak the money is forfeited — optionally donated to a cause or politician you dislike, making non-compliance emotionally painful. Combined, these two mechanics (social notification + loss aversion staking) address both the motivation and accountability gaps that cause most people to abandon journaling within days.
