IdeasBerg (ideasberg.com) is operated by Squidcode. This page explains what data the site collects, why, which third-party services are involved, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
Browsing without an account. You can read every idea, verdict and category page without signing up. In that case we collect only the analytics and advertising data described below.
Accounts. If you create an account we store your email address, an optional display name and a password hash (we never store the password itself). If you sign in with Google we store your Google account identifier and the email address Google provides. Password-reset and email-verification links use single-use tokens that expire.
Favorites and digests. Ideas you star are saved to your account. If you enable an email digest we record that preference so we know what to send.
Newsletter. Subscribing stores your email address and subscription status. We use double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm, and every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
Builders marketplace. If you apply as a builder we store the profile you submit. If you request a build we store your brief and the “about you” details you provide so they can be reused across briefs. This information is shown to the other party of an introduction as part of the service.
Messages to us. Emails you send to our contact address are kept as long as needed to handle them.
Cookies and local storage
Signing in sets a session cookie so you stay logged in. Your light/dark theme choice is kept in your browser’s local storage. Analytics and advertising partners may set their own cookies, as described next.
Analytics and monitoring
We use the following services to understand how the site is used and to keep it working:
- Umami (self-hosted at analytics.squidcode.com) for privacy-focused page-view analytics. For a small random sample of visits (about one in ten) Umami also records a session replay — an anonymised recording of how the page was used — with form inputs masked and recordings capped at five minutes. We use these only to find and fix usability bugs.
- Google Analytics 4, which uses cookies to measure traffic and engagement. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Ahrefs Web Analytics for aggregate traffic reporting.
- New Relic browser monitoring, which reports page performance and JavaScript errors so we can fix them.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Google’s advertising practices are described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Hosting and server logs
The site is served from infrastructure operated by Squidcode. Like almost every web server, ours may keep standard access logs (IP address, browser user agent, requested pages) for security and debugging. These are retained for a limited period and not used to profile individuals.
How we use data, and who we share it with
We use the data above to run the site, keep your account working, send the emails you asked for, make builder introductions, measure what is useful, and show ads. We do not sell personal data. The only third parties that receive it are the service providers named on this page, each for the purpose described, and the counterparty of a builder introduction you initiate.
Retention and your rights
Account data is kept while your account exists. You can ask us to export, correct or delete your data — including closing your account and removing a builder profile — by emailing us from the contact page. We will respond within 30 days. Where the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA apply to you, these are the rights those laws provide, and we honour them regardless of where you live.
Children
IdeasBerg is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If our practices change we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to how account data is used will also be announced to account holders by email.
