VERDICT: MAYBEBERG SCORE 70/100

AI-Powered Tech News Aggregator with Signal Scoring

An intelligent news aggregator that ingests RSS feeds, clusters related stories using vector embeddings, and scores them by novelty, impact, and intellectual gravity to surface the most important tech/AI stories.

01 THE IDEA

The core idea is a personalized tech news aggregator (Kevin calls his prototype 'Nylon') that pulls from 60+ RSS sources, enriches each article via Iframely, Firecrawl, and Gemini's grounded search, then uses vector embeddings and clustering algorithms to group related stories. Each cluster is scored by a 'gravity engine' that evaluates industry impact, novelty, viral potential, early trend detection, builder relevance, and PR fluff risk — surfacing the handful of truly important stories from thousands of daily signals.

The differentiation over existing tools like Techmeme is the editorial intelligence layer: AI judges that detect paid sponsorship masquerading as news, novelty scoring to catch emerging ideas before they go mainstream, and the ability to expand story clusters by querying external search APIs (Brave, Tavily) beyond the seed RSS set. The end product could be a clean single-page feed personalized to a user's interest profile derived from their X/Twitter posting history, delivering the 5 most important stories of the day rather than overwhelming the user.

03 THE VERDICT

The technical stack is proven and the infrastructure cost is low (~$300-1500/month), making this highly capital-efficient. The novelty-detection and sponsored-content-flagging angles are genuinely novel differentiators that premium audiences (VCs, founders, AI practitioners) will pay for. The main risk is distribution — getting early users — but positioning as a curated daily email digest (like Greg's IdeaBrowser model) solves the retention problem elegantly. This is a strong build candidate for a solo technical founder.
