Angel Investing Education Platform with Accreditation Pathway
An online education platform that teaches angel investing fundamentals and serves as a recognized pathway for non-wealthy individuals to obtain sophisticated investor accreditation.

Calacanis describes his 'Angel University' course (done 30 times, proceeds to charity) and advocates strongly for a 'driver's license' model of investor accreditation — where completing a standardized course replaces net-worth requirements. He frames the current system as absurd: a trust-fund kid with no knowledge is accredited, while an NYU economics professor earning under $200k is not. The platform would offer structured education, exams, and a credential that regulators could recognize.
The business model could be a paid course ($100-$300) with a recognized certificate, combined with a community/syndicate access layer for graduates. If lobbying efforts succeed in changing SEC accreditation rules (which Calacanis says are being reformed), graduates would gain legal access to startup investments — creating a powerful distribution moat. Revenue streams: course fees, community subscriptions, and potentially a deal flow marketplace for certified angels.

03 THE VERDICT
The education component is well-validated (Calacanis has done it 30 times) and the community moat is real. However, the highest-value version of this business — regulatory recognition as an accreditation pathway — requires policy change that is slow and uncertain. Without that, it competes in a crowded angel education market. Best bet is to build the community and course now, then push for regulatory recognition as a second act.
