VERDICT: MAYBEBERG SCORE 61/100

Anti-Trend Research & Startup Idea Intelligence Tool

A SaaS tool that systematically identifies anti-trends by aggregating Pinterest Trends, Google Trends, Reddit signals, and social platform data to surface contrarian startup opportunities before they mainstream.

01 THE IDEA

Greg's workflow — combining Pinterest Trends, Google Trends with the Glimpse extension, Claude/AI for competitive research, and Ahrefs for SEO analysis — is a manual, multi-tool process that could be productized into a single platform. The core insight is that anti-trends (the opposite of what's hyped) represent underserved markets with less competition. A tool that automatically surfaces these contrarian signals across data sources, tags them by category, and presents them with initial market sizing and SEO opportunity data would be enormously valuable to indie hackers, investors, and agency founders.

The product could layer in community features where users vote on the most promising anti-trends, share their builds, and collaborate on validation. Monetization via subscription (similar to Exploding Topics or Glimpse) with a free tier for discovery and paid tiers for deeper data and alerts. The differentiation versus existing trend tools is the explicit anti-trend framing and the workflow integration (from trend identification through to competitive research in one interface).

03 THE VERDICT

The product concept is solid and the market is validated by Exploding Topics' success, but differentiation on 'anti-trend' framing alone may not be sufficient — the feature could be added by incumbents quickly. The opportunity is stronger if built as a community-first product where the curation and discussion around anti-trends becomes the moat. Technical execution risk is moderate given multi-API dependencies.
