Big Shot: Non-Obvious Entrepreneur Interview Archive

A podcast and documentary series interviewing overlooked, older entrepreneurs whose untold stories contain massive business wisdom.

01 THE IDEA

Big Shot is a media project that sits down with non-obvious entrepreneurs — largely older, immigrant-founded business builders whose stories have never been told on mainstream podcast circuits — and records long-form documentary-style interviews. The first episode features figures like Aldo Bensadoun, founder of the Aldo shoe empire, and other Montreal-based Jewish entrepreneurs who built multi-billion dollar businesses from nothing.

The core insight is that 'non-obvious mentors' have a disproportionate amount of untapped wisdom and alpha because nobody is asking them questions. This creates both a media product and a potential community/knowledge platform. The business model could extend to premium content, live events, books, or a paid community of founders who want access to this archive of stories.

03 THE VERDICT

This is a passion project with real cultural value and a defensible niche, but it monetizes slowly and depends entirely on the founder's personal network and reputation. Someone without Harley Finkelstein's existing relationships would find it very difficult to get these guests. The upside is a highly differentiated media brand with potential for premium community and events revenue, but ARR ceiling for a small team is modest unless it breaks into mainstream podcast charts.
