Creator Video Agency with SaaS Productization Path

A video production agency serving mid-to-large creators that uses proprietary scripting systems and animation workflows, with a roadmap to spin out the tooling as standalone software.

01 THE IDEA

The agency model here is explicitly structured around a creator's unique content system — in this case, animated short-form videos with a proprietary scripting methodology. The agency ('Vids') charges $3,500–$7,500/month per creator client and is run by an operator (not the creator), freeing the creator to act as creative director. The differentiation is the creator's proven format as a product offering.

The more interesting long-term play, explicitly called out in the video, is the HootSuite origin story: an agency that builds internal tools to serve clients, then spins those tools into standalone software. In this case, the target product is a 'drop in a script, get an animated video' tool — something that doesn't cleanly exist yet. The agency phase funds R&D and validates demand while generating real cash flow. This is a classic agency-to-SaaS transition playbook.

03 THE VERDICT

The agency itself is a fine cash-flowing business to $1-2M ARR but is hard to scale beyond that without commoditization. The real prize is the SaaS productization — but that's a separate, harder company to build. Worth doing if you have creator distribution to acquire clients cheaply AND a technical co-founder lined up for the SaaS pivot. Without both, it's just another video agency in a crowded market.
