Jonathan Courtney's facilitator.com ran an online certification at $6,000 for years, then launched an in-person version at $14,300. Three cohorts sold out immediately. The insight is that professional certifications in hands-on skills (facilitation, coaching, negotiation, design thinking, etc.) are dramatically more credible and effective when delivered in person — and buyers know it and will pay accordingly.

The opportunity is to either build a new certification in an underserved niche or partner with existing digital course creators to create an IRL premium tier. Premium in-person certifications are one of the highest-margin education businesses possible — low tech overhead, high perceived value, and natural word-of-mouth from proud graduates. The model is proven and repeatable across dozens of niches. The main risk is picking a niche where in-person practice adds obvious value (not just theory delivery), which is easy to validate before spending heavily. For anyone with real expertise and a small existing audience, this is a strong path to $500k+ ARR.
