01 THE IDEA

Rather than building a single startup, this model involves systematically launching or acquiring multiple small digital businesses within adjacent niches, then sharing distribution, tooling, team members, and customer lists across them. The holding company becomes a brand that attracts talent, deals, and press — creating compounding advantages for each portfolio company.

The model mirrors what Tiny Capital (Andrew Wilkinson) and others have done but is now accessible to small teams thanks to AI reducing operational costs. Each new product benefits from existing audience distribution, shared infrastructure (no rebuilding auth, payments, etc.), and operator networks. The portfolio approach also de-risks revenue — a bad month for one product doesn't sink the whole operation.

03 THE VERDICT

This is the endgame model, not the starting point. Attempting to build a holdco from scratch without prior operational experience usually results in a collection of mediocre businesses rather than a compounding portfolio. Best pursued by founders who have already validated steps 1–25 and have genuine distribution and operator networks. For those who do, the upside is exceptional.
