Rideshare Tablet Affiliate & Lead-Gen Network

Replace the generic display ads on Uber/Lyft headrest tablets with CPA affiliate offers and QR-code lead generation, sharing revenue with drivers to eliminate churn and incentivize expansion.

01 THE IDEA

Play Octopus and similar rideshare tablet entertainment products have the distribution (hundreds of thousands of cars) but terrible monetization — running generic display ads for ~$70/month per driver. The fix is to replace those ads with high-CPA affiliate offers (DraftKings, FanDuel, CPG brands, insurance) served via QR codes that riders scan in the car, with the affiliate commission split between the platform and the driver. Drivers currently keep tablets for free because riders like them; if drivers earned $500–$1,000/month from commissions, churn becomes essentially zero and word-of-mouth drives organic expansion through driver community groups.

The captured-audience dynamic is powerful: riders are bored, often post-event or post-bar, receptive to offers, and have their phones out. QR code scanning behavior is now normalized post-COVID. The bundle-of-advertisers model (multiple brands sharing a lead, paying $6–$10 total vs. $2 individually) dramatically increases revenue per scan. Sports betting pre-game Uber rides is an especially obvious high-CPA vertical. A team of five engineers and one salesperson could build and scale this.

03 THE VERDICT

The core insight — better monetization for an existing captive audience — is genuinely strong, and the driver revenue-share mechanic solves the churn problem elegantly. However, this requires hardware logistics, driver acquisition at scale, and building or licensing an affiliate offer stack, making it a higher-capital and operationally complex lift than the other ideas. The market is real but execution risk is significant for a solo founder or small team without rideshare or hardware experience.
