01 THE IDEA

A location-based app that aggregates scenic drives and road trip routes in a specific geographic area (demonstrated with the Bay Area), showing them on an interactive map with descriptions, photos, and highlights. Users can browse drives, click markers for route details, and potentially submit new routes.

The app was built live in ~20 minutes using Replit Agent, starting from a simple prompt, iterating with AI feedback, migrating to a PostgreSQL database, and deploying to production. The concept is a niche but passionate community — car enthusiasts, road trippers, tourists, and locals — who want curated, visual route discovery beyond what Google Maps offers.

03 THE VERDICT

The idea has genuine demand and a clear gap (no 'AllTrails for drives' exists at scale), but monetization paths are indirect (ads, affiliate, tourism partnerships) and building a defensible data moat requires sustained community effort. Best approached as a side project or regional niche play first — validate with one metro area before expanding. Strong as a portfolio or lifestyle business; harder to build into a VC-scale company.
