VERDICT: BUILDBERG SCORE 74/100

Evergreen Location-Based SEO Directory

Build a static, pillar-page-style directory website targeting high-volume 'near me' keywords, monetized via display ads and affiliate links, requiring ~15 minutes/month to maintain.

01 THE IDEA

The core idea is to find an underserved 'near me' search query (e.g., 'dog parks near me') using Ahrefs keyword explorer, validate demand and weak competition via Google + Reddit, scrape location data from Google Maps using Outscraper, enrich it with useful attributes (shade, water fountains, benches), and publish it as a long-form static pillar page on WordPress or Framer. The directory targets city/state-specific keyword clusters and is monetized primarily through display ads (AdSense/Mediavine), generating $2,000–$10,000/month passively.

The approach is deliberately low-tech: a single long scrollable page with all listings organized by city and state, internal links between state pages, and enriched data that outcompetes lazily-built rivals. The key insight is that Google Maps doesn't satisfy nuanced searcher intent (e.g., dog parks WITH shade AND water fountains), so a well-enriched directory captures that latent demand. The business is highly passive once built, with the biggest time investment upfront in data collection, cleaning, and enrichment.

03 THE VERDICT

This is one of the most capital-efficient internet businesses available: sub-$500 to launch, sub-2-hours/month to maintain, and realistic $2K–$10K/month passive income. The strategy is battle-tested (Frey's own site has earned for 18+ months), the methodology is repeatable across hundreds of niches, and weak incumbents mean there's still abundant low-hanging fruit. The main risk is Google algorithm volatility, but location-based directories have historically been resilient because they satisfy genuine local intent that Google Maps doesn't fully serve.
