01 THE IDEA

Across dozens of service industries — funeral services, senior living, legal fees, medical procedures, home renovation, specialty rentals — pricing information is deliberately obscured or simply not published online. Consumers waste enormous time calling around for quotes. A directory that makes pricing transparent (even approximate ranges) becomes immediately valuable and highly rankable because it answers a question no other website does.

The data acquisition strategy is the key challenge and the moat: price data can be gathered through AI-assisted web crawling of any published price lists, crowdsourcing from users, direct outreach to businesses, or inference from review sites. Once you have pricing data others don't, you have a defensible asset that drives both SEO traffic (people searching '[service] cost in [city]') and strong monetization alignment (users are actively in buying mode). GasBuddy is the extreme version of this model, but the opportunity exists in hundreds of boring B2C and B2B service categories.
