01 THE IDEA

River Guide is a subscription-based concierge platform targeting stressed urban professionals who are curious about psychedelics, ketamine, mushrooms, ayahuasca, and related compounds but have no trusted entry point. For $100–$1,000/month, members get a dedicated 'guide' — part therapist, part educator, part matchmaker — who learns their stress profile, mental health context, and goals through onboarding questions, then provides curated information and referrals to vetted, high-quality experience providers.

The business deliberately positions itself as 'Switzerland' — it doesn't manufacture or distribute any controlled substances, avoiding the worst regulatory exposure. Revenue comes purely from subscription MRR. The guide-client relationship builds over time, evolving into something resembling a Pandora-style personalized journey. Warm referral fees from preferred providers (retreat centers, ketamine clinics, integration therapists) can supplement subscription revenue. Trust and premium branding are core moats, since the target customer — a finance professional, executive, or high-earner — will pay significantly for discretion and curation.

03 THE VERDICT

The opportunity is real and the timing is excellent given decriminalization momentum and clinical research breakthroughs. However, Amanda's critique is sharp: without solving acquisition and quality control for the actual experiences, you're educating people into a dead end. A solo founder can validate the concierge model cheaply with a small cohort, but scaling requires deep provider networks and possibly a harm-reduction certification or clinical partnerships to maintain trust at scale.
