01 THE IDEA

The idea is for an enterprising operator to purchase admission NFTs or seats in Web3 bootcamps (like Crypto College) at scale, then 'scholarship' them out to promising builders in exchange for equity stakes or priority investment rights in whatever the builders go on to create. A smart contract baked into the scholarship agreement automatically enforces the terms — e.g., 10% equity in the first company, or pro-rata rights at a 20% discount on the first fundraise.

This is essentially a decentralized, on-chain version of what startup incubators and accelerators do, but executed at the earliest possible stage (pre-idea, pre-team) and with the transparency and enforceability of smart contracts replacing traditional legal agreements. The fund operator profits through portfolio appreciation. The model is especially interesting if paired with a specific ecosystem (e.g., scholarshipping Solana bootcamp seats and taking equity only in Solana-native startups).

Creative and structurally sound, but the returns are long-tailed and deeply tied to crypto market cycles. The YGG scholarship model is the closest analog and it had real struggles. Works best as a side strategy for someone already embedded in a specific Web3 ecosystem with strong deal flow. Not ideal as a standalone first business — better as a fund attached to an existing bootcamp or accelerator.
