A platform enabling musicians to deepen fan relationships and capture more revenue through Web3 tools like NFT-based ownership stakes, exclusive access tokens, and direct fan-to-artist commerce rails.

01 THE IDEA

Spotify's royalty model pays only 2% of artists more than $1,000/year, and the top 0.1% earn over $100k. The structural problem is that artists have no way to monetize the depth of their existing fan relationships beyond concert tickets and merch. Web3 enables a new layer: fans can buy ownership stakes in an artist's future revenue, get exclusive access to content, participate in community governance of the artist's projects, and transact directly with artists without a rent-extracting middleman.

The platform opportunity is to build the infrastructure rails that make this easy for artists to deploy — essentially a Shopify for artist-fan Web3 relationships. Revenue model could include platform fees on token sales, subscription tooling for artists, and secondary market transaction fees. This coexists with Spotify rather than replacing it; the pitch to artists is 'use Spotify for discovery, use us to monetize your true fans.'

03 THE VERDICT

The problem is real and large, and the timing is right, but the space is already crowded with well-funded players like Royal and Sound.xyz who have significant head starts and artist relationships. A new entrant needs a very specific niche angle — perhaps a specific genre community, a specific geography, or a novel mechanic — to avoid competing head-on with better-capitalized incumbents. Not a skip, but requires a sharp differentiated wedge.
